Tony Johnston and I have dedicated many years to the field of care. We have served as nominated individuals and registered managers and sat across the table from CQC inspectors numerous times. We’ve navigated the complexities of social services with local authorities and have been vocal advocates for change. We have raised our voices to influence policies and highlight systemic issues and the barriers that hinder care excellence. We have experienced the workforce challenges firsthand—those difficult moments when locating the right people feels like chasing the wind and the heartache of losing valuable staff due to avoidable issues. We understand the impact of poor scheduling, the fatigue of domiciliary care workers travelling along rural roads, and the frustration of being unable to provide the quality induction and training that staff require because resources are too scarce.
